Zaporizhzhia NPP in blackout for 6 days: Ukraine warns of possible “radiation consequences” for Europe - Ukrinform

Oleh Korikov, Head of Ukraine's State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, warned that Russian actions, including shelling and blocking repairs to power lines, jeopardize nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The ZNPP has been relying on diesel generators for six days, raising concerns about the cooling of spent nuclear fuel. If Russian forces do not allow restoration of the plant's connection to Ukraine’s power grid, a potential emergency with radiation consequences for Ukraine and Europe could occur. Since September 23, the last external power line has been disconnected, and the situation continues exacerbated by Russia's refusal to reconnect the power supply, raising fears that Russia plans to connect the ZNPP to its own grid.
